For the intrepid traveler of the Jay community it is no surprise hat gay guides to major cities of he U.S. and Canada exist and have for years. Answering the question of where to go in Davenport, Iowa is no easy task or the publishers of the guides, with Gay businesses, opening, closing, going from gay to straight and back again in the course of a year's time.
Despite the difficulties, gayguides have continued to expand, offering information about groups, services, Hotline and switchboard numbers and publications of interest in a given area.
The updating of these listings, while a major task for the publisher, becomes a point of evaluation for the user-along with ease of use. Symbols and abbreviations used to define the clientele of a given bar or bath should be easy to discern and as up to date as possible.

Virgo (August 24-September 23) A persuasive chat with your boss or others helps to restore harmony and avert estrangement after last month's strain. You're setting the stage for more gains this month. Hmm--what could it be?

With the variety of categories listed a clearer understanding of exactly what can be found at a specific business (bar, bath restaurant etc.) is obtained. Additional information may also be supplied at the end of a listing. Information such as "gay evening only" or "many women Sunday" assists the traveler in making his or her decision about where to go.
Information regarding legal drinking age in each state, closing hours if regulated, and weekend information are contained at the beginning of each state listing.
Places of Interest even provides maps for each city. Listings are numbered and correspond with numbered dots on the map for the area. Freeway exits are clearly marked and
interconnecting routes from one listing to another are shown. Arrows assist with direction, and special notes regarding turn offs are shown along with nearby cross streets. The maps provide a quick and accurate way for travelers who have limited amounts of time in a city to plan their evenings. The four largest cities are further broken down into separate areas and a map provided of each.
Besides bars, baths, restaurants, listings appear for services, Women's services, erotica, after hours food, religious organizations, motorcycle groups, etc. when information regarding where and
when a group meets varies, how to get this information is clearly noted. This means that a mailing address is not the only contact information given, and the traveler can make contact with a group in the shortest amount of time possible.
Information in the 1982 Places of Interest is very accurate. Bars, baths etc. were contacted just prior actual publication and those which had closed are stamped as such. New businesses which opened were added, and while not on the maps are noted with addresses or where to call for the information. The introduction and explana tions of how to use, catagories,
and the international symbols used are also written in Spanish, French and German. While Places of Interest compares in size with Gayellow Pages, approximately 5 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches, it's cover gives no indication as to the nature of the information contained.
Places of Interest because of it's maps, easy read listings and international symbols is a welcome addition to the Gay Community guides in publication. For women, Ferrari also offers a condensed version called Places of Interest to Women at $3.95 which lists just women oriented businesses etc in each city.

Mona and Kim opened the evening with a medley of hits by Diana Ross including "Come See About Me" and "Baby Don't Leave Me." A more recent Diana Ross hit, "The Boss," was performed solo by Kim later in the show. Mona's costumes were quite beautiful and elaborate and

Margie, coaxed on stage by Mona, seemed quite awed by Mona's abundant chest. At Mona's and the audience's insistance, Margie was coaxed into performing, to a disco number, where she proceeded to accentuate parts of her anatomy. It was great to see Mona once again. The crowed loved her, especially her relentless attacks on Twiggy.
Despite the fact that the scenery fell on Mona, she continued to perform like a trooper.
It's good to see more shows at the 620 and hopefully these will continue as part of the club's new image.
